I can see why it’s such a popular (trope? genre?) type of romance! While I didn’t understand most of the hockey references, which showed up kind of often-I’m not sporty, okay 😂-it was still amusing. I must admit-given those points on lack of character depth and background-it did take me a while to figure out if I liked the main characters or not, because I couldn’t really relate to them.

It felt kind of surface level and there was a lot more show than tell going on in some parts. I like that the plot to this story was very straightforward and easy follow along with, because it made it a good book to read between reads or if you’re just looking for something lighthearted and quick. That makes it kind of fun to guess who the rest of the books in the series might be about. Lexie Kowalsky thought she was ready to get married in front of millions of people, but at the last minute she fled the set of. Leaving your fiancé at the altar on live television is a disaster. I definitely saw some parts (especially at the start) where I was like “ah, this must link in to a past book” but it was never something that took away from my understanding of the book itself! Because it is a sports romance, the thing that makes it a series is the fact that it follows different team players. Running in five-inch stilettos is an art form. I know this book is part of a series, but I love that it can be read as a stand-alone romance story.
